Camp Delmont

Web Page - Mission Statement

I hope, by launching this website, to draw attention to a fine old camp through which many thousands of scouts have passed since it's humble origins in 1916.

I hope to make people aware of the history of this fine old Scout Camp as well as the overall history of the Unami Valley.

The Musser Scout Reservation which includes Camp Delmont, Camp Hart and Camp Garrison, is the largest undeveloped tract of land in Montgomery County, PA.

On another note...Camp Delmont is in need of volunteer laborers to make repairs, help with refurbishing and perform some preventative maintenance around the camp.

I know there has to be alumni of Camp Delmont out there who are willing to volunteer some of their time and effort to help an old friend. Just think back to your first camping trip to Camp Delmont and the fun and excitement of just arriving at camp.

Remember your first trip to the rifle range...getting safety instruction on the use of the .22 cal rifle...taking a cartridge from the wooden block and loading it into the chamber...carefully taking aim on the paper target through the peep sights ...slowly squeezing the trigger...and the joy of seeing the target jump when the cartridge is ignited. If you are like me you probably still have the target from that first year at Camp Delmont.

Remember your first trip to the lake to swim. Remember the swimming test you had to take and the little cardboard buddy tag you received...color coded to indicate your swimming level. Or maybe your first swimming event was at the swimming pool which was built later.

Maybe your favorite time was meals in the big Cedar or Pioneer dining halls. Each table had a waiter assigned, from your troop, to get your tables beverage...usually green, red or purple "bug juice" and to clean up afterward. Remember you couldn't wear your hat while in the dining hall?

Remember your campsite getting the "Clean Camp" certificate which was posted on the bulletin board at the entrance to your site?

Remember the two-man wall tents mounted on the wooden platform with two canvas/wooden cots to sleep on?

Remember sleeping with the "Daddy Longlegs" spiders all over the inside of your tent?

If you have fond memories of your Camp Delmont years and would like to help with our restoration effort please e-mail me and let me know you would like to join the "Camp Delmont Alumni Association" and we will put you on the list. If you know of anyone who might be interested in this project let them know...SPREAD THE WORD.
