Outdoor Webelos Leader Training 2001
OWL Training 2001 Patch On Saturday, March 10, 2001 73 Scouters and xx staff gathered at Schweiker Lodge, Camp Delmont, Musser Scout Reservation in Green Lane, PA. The purpose of this gathering was for Outdoor Webelos Leader (OWL) Training for 2001 which was sponsored by the Cradle of Liberty Council, BSA. Registration began at 8:00 AM and the training started at 9:00 AM. Topics covered in Schweiker Lodge, as a group, were: Webelos Outdoor Activities Safe Swim Defense Safety Afloat Planning Overnight Campouts Campfire Planning Flag Ceremonies Foil Dinners Campfire Preperation The group was then divided into ten dens and Round Robin sessions followed outdoors. Topics covered in the Round Robin sessions were: Knots and Rope Woods Tools Naturalist Activity Badge Forester Activity Badge First Aid Fire Building Geologist Activity Badge Outdoorsman Activity Badge Site Selection and Tents Bedding and Weather Cooking and Sanitation The participants then each made up a Foil Dinner and cooked them on the dinner fire which was made up of charcoal briquets and measured approximately two feet wide and twenty-five feet long. After dinner the attendees had a campfire and each den gave either a skit, a cheer or a song for the rest of the group. Below is a copy of our Den's song we performed and led the rest of the group in singing. The lyrics were composed by Rick Mentley, a member of our Den. This is sung to the tune of a popular marching cadence song called "Sound Off".
I'm a Webelo
I'm a Webelo, follow me,
Off to camp we go with glee.
Got my bag and extra socks,
Hope I won't have to sleep on rocks.
We'll build a fire that'll really burn,
Of course SAFETY is our main concern.
We'll learn cool things like using knives,
And things to help us grow and thrive.
