SCOUT LEADERSHIP - Troop activities will be planned and run by the Scouts. A calendar of the current cycle's events will be given to each troop family. Since the troop is run by the Scouts, they need to take training so they know what is expected of them and can perform their jobs properly. Elections will be held, and Scouts will be expected to take the training for the positions they are elected to. Den Chiefs will have to take the extra training for this position. Silver Stag will be an extra training course for Senior and Asstant Senior Patrol Leaders. OUTINGS - All parents are invited on outings at any time, and they will not be exempt from any fees for the outings. Permission slips must be handed in by the due date on the form or your Scout will not be able to go on the outing. This is done because food needs to be purchased in advance and sites need to be reserved for a specific number of people. NEW ADULT LEADERS - All those wishing to become part of the leadership team of the troop, or the committee, must watch the Boy Scout Fast Start video. New Assistant Scoutmasters must take Scoutmastership Fundamentals (Boy Scout Leader Basic Training), Youth Protection, and Fundamentals of Outdoor Leader Skills training. This is done to provide a leadership base that knows the BSA rules and can provide a safe and fun environment for the Scouts we serve. REVERENCE - All Scouts are expected to be respectful to the flag of our country. This means in the handling of the flag and also when it is being saluted. Citizenship is very important and proper behavior in dealing with our country's flag will help to build this. Scouts are also to be reverent when prayer is spoken before meals or during a service on Sunday mornings. BSA is a nonsectarian organization but does stress the belief in a God. One point of the Scout Law is that a Scout is reverent. Proper behavior during prayer shows respect for one's God and for others and their God. Scouts will be expected to attend Scout Sunday, the second Sunday in February, at Old Goshenhoppen Reformed Church, UCC, in Woxall. This is done to show our gratitude to Old Goshenhoppen and its members for being the troop's sponsor. Page 3 |
