Winter Camping Equipment

One must bring the necessary equipment and pay attention to stay warm, dry and comfortable.

Camping Equipment

  • warm sleeping bag packed within a plastic waterproof bag inside protective stuff sack
  • pack & frame w/ padded hip belt
  • plastic ground cloth
  • foam sleeping pad (or two)
  • tent w/ extra stakes
  • plastic garbage bags for pack cover and for extra rain gear

Cold-weather Clothing

  • good waterproof boots
  • warm long pants and belt
  • long underwear
  • extra pants and underwear
  • 2 warm long-sleeve shirts
  • warm coat with hood
  • wool sweater
  • sweatshirt
  • handkerchief or bandannas
  • extra pair of shoes (water repellent if possible)
  • 2-3 pairs heavy wool socks
  • 2-3 pairs inner socks (polypropylene)
  • warm pajamas
  • sleeping cap
  • wool day hat which covers ears
  • wool scarf
  • 2 pair gloves/mittens (You can use socks.)
  • plastic bags in which clothing is packed

  • flashlight w/ extra batteries & bulb
  • matches in waterproof container

  • canteen & water bottles ( 1-2 quarts)
  • rain-suit (use garbage bag in emergencies)
  • first aid kit (w/ bandaids, moleskin, tape, disinfectant)

  • repair kit (s-pins; needle&thread, shoelaces, rubberbands)
  • 50' of 1/8" nylon safety cord
